Sezgin Tanrıkulu criticizes judicial system at Marmara Prison

Sezgin Tanrıkulu, a Diyarbakır Member of Parliament for the YENİ Party, has issued a sharp critique of the Turkish judicial system following visits to politicians, lawyers, bureaucrats, and female detainees at the Marmara Closed Prison in Silivri.

Speaking outside the prison complex, Tanrıkulu stated that the proceedings held within the facility, including those in its large new courtrooms, are characterized by serious irregularities and a lack of impartiality. He argued that the campus is currently “writing the history of lawlessness, injustice, and the lack of independence and neutrality of the judiciary in Türkiye.”

Tanrıkulu specifically highlighted a systemic failure regarding the enforcement of high court rulings. He questioned the efficacy of the legal process when local heavy penal courts fail to implement violation decisions issued by the Constitutional Court, noting that such inaction renders legal recourse through the Court of Cassation and individual applications ineffective.
