Sfera Ebbasta films music video at Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper
Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta has become the first musical artist to film a music video inside the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, specifically in front of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’. The video is for his new single ‘Lontano’, which serves as the lead track for his upcoming studio album, ‘Purosangue’.
The production utilized strict technical measures to protect the artwork from light and noise. The collaboration with Milanese cultural institutions includes initiatives aimed at social inclusion, specifically targeting youth from suburban areas to reconnect them with universal art heritage through contemporary cultural figures.
However, the decision has drawn criticism from the CGIL trade union in Milan. The union described the authorization as a mistake, stating, “It is not valorization, it is debasement,” arguing that such a precious space should not be used for commercial music videos. The move has sparked debate regarding the use of historical heritage for commercial purposes, drawing comparisons to previous controversial events in Milanese cultural sites.
