Séfou Fagbohoun, Beninese political leader and businessman, dies

Séfou Fagbohoun, a prominent Beninese businessman and political figure, has passed away. His funeral is scheduled to take place this Sunday at his residence in the Oké-Odan neighborhood of Adja-Ouèrè, held privately in accordance with his family's wishes.

Fagbohoun was a significant figure in Beninese public life for three decades. He founded and served as the president of the African Movement for Democracy and Progress (MADEP) in 1997 and was elected to the National Assembly three times. His political journey included affiliations with Union fait la Nation and later a move toward the Bloc Républicain.

Beyond politics, Fagbohoun was recognized as a philanthropist in the Plateau Department, notably funding the construction of both a mosque and a church in Adja-Ouèrè. He also served as the president of the Dragons de l’Ouémé football club. His death has drawn tributes from high-ranking officials, including the President of the Republic and leaders of the National Assembly and Senate.
