SG Flensburg-Handewitt signs Portuguese Costa brothers to 2027 contracts

Portuguese handball internationals Martim Costa (23) and his younger brother Francisco "Kiko" Costa (21) have agreed to join German club SG Flensburg‑Handewitt for the 2027/28 season. Both players signed five‑year contracts that run until 30 June 2032. The brothers, who currently play for Sporting CP, are regarded as among the most promising talents in Europe – Kiko is praised as one of the best left‑handed backs, while Martim is noted for his versatility in half‑left and centre positions.

Club director Holger Glandorf described the signings as “something very special”, highlighting their dynamism, creativity and ambition. Coach Aleš Pajović added that the brothers bring quality, game intelligence and passion, and fit well with the team’s philosophy. The transfer was confirmed by both Sporting and Flensburg, with the clubs agreeing not to release images of the players until they officially join.

The move ends the Costa brothers’ six‑year spell at Sporting, during which they helped the Portuguese side win multiple national championships, cups and super cups.
