SGK expert warns of pension cancellations due to invalid premium days
Social Security Institution (SGK) expert Özgür Erdursun has warned that the total number of premium days appearing on a service record may not all be considered valid for retirement calculations. This discrepancy can lead to the cancellation of retirement applications or the termination of pension payments years after retirement if audits reveal invalid service periods.
Specific letter codes in service records serve as indicators for further investigation: the ‘K’ code identifies workplaces under controlled inspection, the ‘Ş’ code denotes suspicious insurance notifications, and the ‘S’ code indicates records deemed fraudulent. If services based on non-actual work are identified, the invalid days are removed from the total. This can drop a worker below the required threshold for retirement, even if their initial records appeared sufficient.
Erdursun also noted that overlapping premium periods, such as simultaneous 4/A (SSK) and 4/B (Bağ-Kur) notifications, do not automatically increase the total day count. He advises workers to use the e-Devlet system to review their monthly service records in detail before applying. Furthermore, if invalid services are discovered post-retirement, the SGK may demand the repayment of paid pensions and covered healthcare expenses, including legal interest.
