Ségolène Royal secures endorsements for Socialist Party primary

Ségolène Royal has announced that she has secured the necessary endorsements to participate in the Socialist Party primary for the 2027 presidential election. The former minister, 72, stated that her supporters represent ‘very different sensibilities’ within the party and noted that the speed of the process reflects the lasting friendships she maintains within the Socialist Party.

Royal expressed a desire to ‘restore order and dignity to the house of France,’ though she has not yet detailed specific policy proposals. She joins six other declared candidates for the primary, which is scheduled to take place in two rounds on October 9-10 and 16-17.

In broader political developments, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon has called for a rapid unification of the center and right behind Édouard Philippe to prevent a second-round confrontation between the far-left and far-right. While Bregeon urged Gabriel Attal and Bruno Retailleau to support Philippe, Retailleau maintained his intention to run for victory, and Attal has indicated he will not abandon his own presidential ambitions.
