Sgurgola rockfall blocks road following severe weather
A large boulder detached from a mountain and landed on the pedemontana road in Sgurgola, Italy, following heavy rainfall in the Frosinone province. The rock fell near the intersection of via Pietra Rea and via Fontana Caviglia, an area frequently used by pedestrians and vehicles. While no injuries were reported, the boulder uprooted several trees and created a visible furrow in the landscape before coming to rest on the roadway.
Authorities have closed the road to prevent further danger, as the provincial administration fears additional landslides. Currently, transit is restricted, and local public transport buses and emergency vehicles are unable to pass through the area. Firefighters and Carabinieri are on-site managing the scene and assessing the stability of the mountain slope. The incident is believed to have been caused by recent intense storms that weakened the terrain and the rock face.
