SGX and EEX expand futures offerings in shipping and natural gas

The Baltic Exchange has announced that the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the European Energy Exchange (EEX) are now offering new Baltic Handysize futures contracts. These freight forward agreements (FFAs) consist of two baskets based on handysize timecharter averages across four Atlantic and three Pacific routes. The new contracts are designed to help market participants manage exposure to the Atlantic and Pacific Handysize basins, providing more granular hedging opportunities and increased transparency in the dry bulk freight derivatives market.

Separately, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) plans to launch physically settled daily natural gas futures on November 23, 2026. These contracts will cover four major European gas hubs: the Dutch TTF, German THE, Austrian CEGH VTP, and French PEG. The daily maturity is intended to allow traders to manage short-term price exposure with greater precision and will include a Day-Month spread functionality to facilitate relative-value trading, particularly during periods of gas storage replenishment.
