Shabari Naturals wins Japan's G-Mark Good Design Award
Shabari Naturals, a social enterprise managed by the Nashik-headquartered Shabari Tribal Finance and Development Corporation (STFDC), has received the prestigious ‘Good Design Award’ (G-Mark) from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. The award recognizes the brand's packaging, which utilizes traditional Indian art forms such as Warli, Gond, and Chitrakathi to represent the culture and lifestyle of Maharashtra's tribal communities.
The brand, an initiative of the Maharashtra state government, markets natural products collected by tribal women, including wild honey, millets, spices, and handmade artifacts. The international jury praised the packaging for its cultural value, sustainability, and innovative presentation.
STFDC Managing Director Leena Bansod is expected to receive the award in Tokyo on November 4. This recognition allows the brand to use the G-Mark logo, serving as an international seal of quality and aesthetics, which is expected to increase global market access and economic opportunities for tribal communities.
