Shabnaam Annoowar stabbed by husband Faizal Mirzane in Mauritius

Shabnaam Annoowar, a 33‑year‑old municipal road‑works employee and mother of two, was violently attacked by her husband, 49‑year‑old Faizal Mirzane, in front of their 10‑year‑old daughter in Port Louis, Mauritius. According to the investigation, Mirzane stabbed Annoowar in the abdomen, causing severe intestinal injuries. She was rushed to the Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, underwent emergency surgery and remains in the surgical intensive‑care unit.

Mirzane fled the scene but was arrested by police in Vallée‑Pitot later that day. He has been provisionally charged with attempted murder and is being held pending further proceedings. The suspect has a prior record for assault and was previously convicted in 1994. Annoowar's mother, Waheda Annoowar, testified that the couple endured years of physical abuse before the stabbing, describing repeated beatings and threats.
