Shabnam Sinha to succeed Sunil Bharti Mittal as Airtel Payments Bank Chair

Airtel Payments Bank has announced a leadership transition, with Shabnam Sinha set to succeed Sunil Bharti Mittal as Chairperson. Mittal will step down as Non-Executive Chairman and from the Board effective September 30, 2026.

Sinha, currently an Independent Director on the bank’s Board, will begin a three-year term as Chairperson on October 1, 2026. Her appointment has received approval from both the bank’s Board and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Sinha brings over 30 years of experience in development finance, financial services, and public policy, including previous work with the World Bank. The transition occurs as the digital lender manages growth within India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure and navigates evolving regulatory requirements and cybersecurity compliance.
