Shadric Namalomba demands accountability from Malawi communications parastatals

Malawi’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Shadric Namalomba, has called for increased accountability and innovation within the country’s communications sector parastatals. Speaking at a meeting in Blantyre, Namalomba warned that institutions failing to meet agreed-upon targets will face corrective action.

The minister criticized a “culture of routine” where institutions operate based on long-standing habits rather than efficiency. He emphasized that heads of parastatals must take personal responsibility for monitoring performance and addressing institutional weaknesses to ensure they deliver measurable results to Malawians.

Stuart Ligomeka, Deputy Chief Secretary to the Government and Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, urged these entities to strengthen cooperation to improve public service delivery. Additionally, Chancy Gondwe, board chairperson of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), reminded the sector that their duty is to fully execute their established mandates and provide tangible value to the public.
