Shafiqur Rahman returns to Bangladesh after Turkey visit

Shafiqur Rahman, the leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition, has returned to Dhaka following a visit to Turkey and the performance of Umrah.

Upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Rahman described Turkey as a ‘proven, pure friend’ of Bangladesh. He noted that his participation in an international conference aimed to highlight Bangladesh on the global stage. During his visit, he met with various members of the Turkish Parliament, including the chairman of the Turkey-Bangladesh Friendship Group, and other government officials.

Discussions in Turkey covered several areas for potential cooperation, including education exchange programs, skill development, investment, and the expansion of the defense industry. Rahman also mentioned having ‘very important’ discussions regarding the Mecca Pact.

Additionally, Rahman expressed condemnation regarding an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, noting that Saudi Arabia blamed the Houthis for the incident. He advocated for dialogue over conflict, stating that war is not a solution to global instability.
