Shah Rukh Khan’s King secures record 175 crore overseas distribution deal
Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action-thriller, King, has reportedly secured a historic overseas distribution agreement worth Rs 175 crore (approximately $18 million). The deal, structured as a minimum guarantee (MG) agreement, was acquired by Dubai-based Phars Films, marking a significant shift from previous arrangements where Yash Raj Films typically handled Khan’s international releases.
This agreement sets a new benchmark for Indian cinema, being the first to breach the Rs 100-crore threshold for overseas rights alone. Under the MG model, Phars Films commits the funds upfront, providing financial certainty to the producers, Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.
To achieve profitability, industry analysts estimate the film must generate between $37 million and $50 million in international gross collections. This target requires King to match or exceed the overseas performance of Khan’s previous blockbusters, Pathaan and Jawan, which both earned approximately Rs 400 crore globally.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026. The film features an ensemble cast including Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji. Additionally, T-Series has reportedly secured a 50-year exclusive global commercial music rights deal for the film through Zee Music Company.
