Shaheen Afridi asserts status as Pakistan ODI captain

Shaheen Shah Afridi has addressed reports regarding a potential change in Pakistan’s ODI captaincy, asserting, “Till now, I am the captain.” His comments come amid speculation that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) intends to appoint Babar Azam as the all-format captain.

Reports suggest that Babar Azam accepted the Test captaincy on the condition that he would eventually lead the team in all formats. Selectors have reportedly indicated that achieving positive results during upcoming Test series in the West Indies and England could facilitate this transition.

Shaheen Afridi has served as the ODI captain since October last year, following the tenure of Mohammad Rizwan. While some analysts predict Babar Azam will lead the team during the 2027 ODI World Cup, Shaheen remains the current holder of the position.
