Shahjahanpur dispute over hair cutting services sparks communal tension

A dispute erupted in the Jindpura gram panchayat of the Nigohi block in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after Muslim barbers reportedly refused to cut the hair of members of the Valmiki community. The refusal led to protests by Valmiki community members, who argued that they are part of Hindu society and should not face discrimination.

Following police intervention, one Muslim barber complied and cut the hair, but he subsequently faced severe backlash from his own community. Reports indicate the barber was threatened with social boycott, divorce, and being barred from praying in the mosque. His shop was also forcibly closed.

Local police intervened to control the situation and prevent further unrest, advising shopkeepers against discrimination and urging citizens to maintain communal harmony. The situation is currently reported to be calm following administrative intervention.
