Shahjahanpur police deploy 1,400 personnel following fatal pilgrim accident

Two Kanwar pilgrims, identified as 14-year-old Nitish Kumar and 23-year-old Pradeep Kumar, were killed and one person, Rahul Gangwar, was injured after a tractor allegedly rammed into a group of walkers near Jamour in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The pilgrims were traveling from Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad toward Gola Gokarnath when the accident occurred.

In response to the incident, district police have deployed approximately 1,400 personnel along a 90-km Kanwar route. The security force includes 1,100 constables, 210 sub-inspectors, 17 inspectors, and seven circle officers. Authorities have also installed 500 barricades and 100 CCTV cameras to manage the increased number of travelers.

To ensure safe movement, one carriageway of the Palia-Farrukhabad highway has been restricted for the exclusive use of pilgrims. Additionally, four new Kanwar camps have been established to provide safety advice to both drivers and pedestrians, including instructions on proper lane usage and parking.
