Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ends 141-game scoring streak
Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander saw his NBA-record streak of 141 consecutive regular-season games with at least 20 points come to an end during a 96-84 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
With 1 minute and 43 seconds remaining in the game and the Thunder holding a 17-point lead, Gilgeous-Alexander finished the night with 17 points. Rather than attempting to score more to extend the streak, the two-time reigning NBA MVP requested to be substituted out of the game. He noted that he wanted to “always treat the game with respect” and observed that the Nuggets had already begun substituting their players.
The 141-game run, which began on November 1, 2024, surpassed the previous record of 126 games held by Wilt Chamberlain. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault praised the player's decision, stating that the move showed “tremendous class as a competitor.” The win moves the Thunder to a 2-0 start for the season.
