Shailene Woodley discusses being cut from Spider-Man franchise

Actress Shailene Woodley has shared details regarding her removal from the Spider-Man franchise. Woodley was originally cast to play Mary Jane Watson, a role she described as a dream because Spider-Man is her favorite superhero.

Woodley confirmed that she filmed approximately three scenes alongside Andrew Garfield. However, she was informed about a year later that she had been cut from the project. The decision was reportedly made to delay the introduction of the character until a potential sequel, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’, following the conclusion of the storyline involving Emma Stone’s character.

Ultimately, the planned third film did not move forward, leaving Woodley’s performance in the editing room. The underwhelming commercial and critical reception of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ contributed to Sony’s decision to shift its approach to the franchise.
