Shailene Woodley reveals her role was cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Actress Shailene Woodley has revealed that her role as Mary Jane Watson in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ was cut from the final film. During a ‘SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations’ series, Woodley explained that she had filmed three scenes alongside Andrew Garfield but was informed approximately one year later that her character would not appear in the movie.

Woodley stated that the decision was made by filmmakers to streamline the storyline and avoid confusing audiences by introducing a new love interest while the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone) was still central. The original plan was reportedly to introduce Mary Jane following the death of Gwen Stacy, but the planned third film in the series was never produced.

Woodley described the role as a dream casting, noting that Spider-Man was her favorite superhero growing up. She joked about the unexpected nature of the news, referring to the notification as a ‘fun phone call.’
