Shailene Woodley reveals her Mary Jane role was cut from Spider-Man sequel

Actress Shailene Woodley recently shared details regarding her role in the 2014 film ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, revealing that her character, Mary Jane Watson, was cut from the final production. Woodley noted that she filmed approximately three scenes with lead actor Andrew Garfield but did not learn her scenes had been removed until a year after filming concluded.

During a career retrospective for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s ‘Conversations’ series, Woodley explained that the decision was made to streamline the narrative around the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone. While Sony Pictures had originally planned to introduce Mary Jane in a subsequent film, that project was never produced.
