Shake & Stir announces new production ‘GRIMM’ for Newcastle
Shake & Stir is launching a new theatrical production titled ‘GRIMM: Tales From The Brothers Grimm’. The show aims to explore the darker, unsettling, and often humorous truths found within traditional fairy tales.
Artistic director Nick Skubij noted that the production seeks to present the brutality and humanity of these stories in a way that feels relevant to modern audiences. Co-artistic director Nelle Lee, who also adapted the stories, described the work as ‘a little bit naughty and a little bit dark’.
The production features intertwined characters and stories that bleed into one another. Nelle Lee will perform multiple roles, including Little Red Riding Hood, Belle, and Snow White. The production utilizes extravagant costumes designed by Paul McCann alongside detailed lighting and sound design.
