Shakespeare adaptations scheduled for Brazilian theater stages
Two distinct theatrical productions inspired by William Shakespeare are set to debut in Brazil.
“Festa no Arraial, O Musical,” directed by Thereza Falcão, will perform three shows at the Theatro Santa Roza in João Pessoa on October 31 and November 1. The musical, which draws inspiration from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” blends Brazilian culture and “festas juninas” with elements of romance, comedy, and fantasy. The production features a large cast including Claudia Ohana and Lorena Tucci.
In Curitiba, the Teatro de Comédia do Paraná (TCP) will premiere a new production of “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Guairinha auditorium. Directed by Paulo de Moraes, the run is scheduled from November 12 to December 6, 2026. The production aims to modernize the classic text through a lens of humor and human conflict, with all sessions providing accessibility features such as Libras and audio description.
