Shakira and Burna Boy open FIFA World Cup 2026 with 'Dai Dai

Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian afrobeats artist Burna Boy performed the official FIFA World Cup 2026 song "Dai Dai" during the opening ceremony at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca. Shakira sang in a neon‑yellow bodysuit while Burna Boy joined her on stage, joined later by a troupe of dancers and a lineup of other Latin artists including J Balvin, Lila Downs and Alejandro Fernández. The performance emphasized themes of peace, unity and support for young athletes.

A fan poll conducted by Billboard later named "Dai Dai" the best World Cup anthem ever, with more than 31 % of votes, beating Shakira’s own 2010 hit "Waka Waka" and Ricky Martin’s "La Copa de la Vidavan". Commentators highlighted the song’s blend of afrobeats, dance‑pop and reggaetón and its tribute to football legends such as Maradona, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
