Social‑media posts circulated a video claiming that a body double performed in place of Shakira during the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony. Fact‑checkers in India determined the footage was created with AI and does not match any of the official ceremonies held in Mexico, Canada or the United States. Shakira did appear on stage in Mexico City and no credible evidence supports the double theory.

Mexican entertainer known as Shakibecca also used her platforms to deny any involvement in a supposed substitution, stating she was merely watching the event from outside the stadium. Both sources confirm the rumors are unfounded and that the ceremony featured Shakira alongside artists such as J Balvin, Burna Boy and Danny Ocean.
