Shakira confirmed at World Cup 2026 opening, no double used

Colombian singer Shakira performed live at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, sharing the stage with Nigerian artist Burna Boy to present the tournament anthem “Dai Dai.” Shortly after the event, social‑media users claimed that a body double had replaced her, citing changes in her appearance caused by lighting, sunglasses and hairstyle.

Evidence disproving the theory includes a distinctive scar on Shakira’s forehead visible in archival photos and in the inauguration footage, as well as her own Instagram posts showing rehearsals in identical attire the day before the ceremony. The rumor originated from a satirical video that was widely shared and misinterpreted. In a separate video, Shakira explained that she uses daily facial treatments—such as a red‑laser device and guasha massage—to reduce fluid retention before performances. FIFA has confirmed she will also appear during the halftime show of the final on 19 July at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.

The episode illustrates how quickly speculation can spread online, even when the artist’s presence is clearly documented.
