Shakira expands Pies Descalzos Foundation educational reach in Colombia

Colombian singer Shakira is expanding the reach of her philanthropic organization, the Pies Descalzos Foundation, which has established a total of 27 schools in Colombia to date. Nine of these educational centers were opened this year, with 14 additional projects currently in development.

The foundation’s initiatives provide education to approximately 21,000 children and impact roughly one million people through various programs. Key focus areas include historically underserved regions such as La Guajira and Chocó, as well as Tibú, a locality affected by armed conflict.

Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on August 10 that damaged or destroyed over 200 schools in the Chocó region, Shakira has personally visited the area to assess the damage. She has committed an immediate donation of one million euros and pledged to assist in the reconstruction of the local Technological University, which serves students from the Pies Descalzos school network.
