Shakira launches World Cup 2026 anthem at Mexico City opening ceremony

Colombian pop star Shakira performed at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, moments before the inaugural match between Mexico and South Africa. She premiered the tournament's official song, "Dai Dai," together with Nigerian afrobeats artist Burna Boy, entertaining a crowd of more than 80,000 spectators.

The 30‑minute show, following a set by J Balvin, featured extensive choreography, a live band and lighting effects. The anthem supports FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise US$100 million for education and sport opportunities for disadvantaged children worldwide. Shakira’s appearance marks her fourth World Cup performance, after previous shows in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

The ceremony is part of a three‑city opening across Mexico, the United States and Canada, with additional events slated for Toronto and Los Angeles later in the day.
