Shakira leads FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Mexico City

Colombian pop star Shakira, together with Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, performed the official tournament song “Dai Dai” at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. The show featured fireworks, a replica of the World Cup trophy, Mexican cultural motifs such as papel picado, and appearances by other artists including Maná, Belinda, Lila Downs, J Balvin and Andrea Bocelli.

In the days following the ceremony, Shakira addressed viral rumors that a double had performed in her place by appearing on stage in Los Angeles with oversized sunglasses at her Intuit Dome concerts on June 13‑14, dramatically removing the glasses and joking about the theory before beginning her performance without them.
