Shakira Performs at 2026 World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico City

FIFA opened the 2026 World Cup on June 11 at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium with a spectacle that included a performance by Colombian singer Shakira. She sang the tournament’s official song “Dai Dai” alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy, joining a roster of other Latin music stars.

The ceremony marked the first World Cup jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada and featured the inaugural match between Mexico and South Africa. Organisers expect the opening event to be viewed by billions worldwide, highlighting the tournament’s record‑breaking scale of 48 participating nations and 104 matches.

Shakira’s involvement continues her long‑standing association with FIFA events, having previously performed at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
