Shakira rehearses for FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Mexico City

Global pop star Shakira posted Instagram photos showing intensive rehearsals with dancers and crew ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Mexico City. She confirmed she will perform the tournament’s official song “Dai Dai” alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy, with the performance set to launch the Global Citizen Education Fund’s campaign to raise $100 million for children’s education and football programs.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for June 12, will be the first of three ceremonies across the United States, Canada and Mexico and will feature a lineup of international artists. Shakira also announced the start of the North American leg of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour, debuting in Los Angeles, and said that a dollar from each U.S. tour ticket will be donated to the same education fund.

She emphasized the song’s message of unity and the importance of supporting youth education, stating that the World Cup stage offers a platform to “steal the show” for this cause.
