Shakur Stevenson and Gary Antuanne Russell revisit unification fight talks
Negotiations for a potential unification bout between Shakur Stevenson and WBA champion Gary Antuanne Russell have resurfaced. Stevenson, a four-division world champion, recently signed a promotional deal with Zuffa Boxing following a victory over Teofimo Lopez.
Russell has addressed claims that he is avoiding the matchup, stating on social media that the issue is financial rather than a lack of willingness. He characterized recent offers as “lowball” attempts, asserting, “Shakur knows for a fact that we ain’t ducking nothing.”
Adding to the discussion, boxer O’Shaquie Foster expressed confidence in a Stevenson victory, describing Russell’s fighting style as “stiff as hell.” Foster suggested that Russell’s movement would allow Stevenson to easily read and time his attacks. While Russell remains a primary candidate for Stevenson’s next fight, other contenders such as Raymond Muratalla and Jose Valenzuela have also been mentioned in the context of Stevenson’s upcoming schedule.
