This potential matchup follows the collapse of negotiations for a superfight between Stevenson and Devin Haney. Disagreements regarding financial splits and weight classes prevented the bout; Stevenson reportedly sought a 144-pound catchweight, while Haney’s team insisted on the 147-pound welterweight limit.

In light of Stevenson’s recent signing with Zuffa Boxing, speculation has also emerged regarding a potential clash with legendary eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao. Teofimo Lopez commented on the rumored matchup, stating that Pacquiao “still has enough in the tank to give Stevenson a good fight” and noting the technical nature of a potential meeting between the two southpaws.
