Shalom Library releases new volume on Hebrew Bible peace messages
The Shalom Library has released the first volume of its new collection, ‘Friedensbotschaften der Hebräischen Bibel’ (Peace Messages of the Hebrew Bible). Edited by Peter Bürger, this reader explores peace theology through the lens of the Hebrew Bible and includes contributions from various scholars, theologians, and rabbis.
The publication features research, essays, and sermons organized into four thematic sections, including fundamental impulses for new perspectives, the Torah and peace, and prophetic words. Notably, the collection includes significant representation from female authors and focuses on female figures within the Bible.
This release is part of a broader project examining the historical connection between Jewish identity and pacifism. Research conducted by the Shalom Library has identified nearly 200 entries regarding pacifists and anti-militarists from Jewish families, exploring how religious values and the experience of the diaspora have influenced global peace movements and the pursuit of justice.
