Shamar Springer joins West Indies Test squad for Bangladesh tour

Shamar Springer has been named to the West Indies Test squad for the upcoming two-match series in Bangladesh. He replaces seam-bowling all-rounder Keemo Paul, who has withdrawn from the tour due to personal and family reasons.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) noted that Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were considered as potential replacements for Paul but were unavailable due to injuries. The squad will also be missing white-ball captain Shai Hope, who is being rested, and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was withdrawn for workload management.

Springer, 28, is seeking his maiden Test debut after having previously represented the West Indies in three ODIs and 12 T20Is. His first-class record includes 1,043 runs at an average of 32.59 and 58 wickets at an average of 27.87 across 23 matches. He recently showed strong batting form for Barbados in the 2026 West Indies Championship.

The tour is scheduled to begin with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24, followed by the first Test in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1.
