Shamator Village Council condemns arson against Tikhir community

The Shamator Village Council has issued a strong condemnation regarding the alleged arson, vandalism, and intimidation targeting members of the Tikhir community in Shamator Town. The Council reported that properties were burned or vandalized over three consecutive days, resulting in the destruction of houses, schoolbags, books, children's belongings, and essential documents.

The Council stated that these incidents have devastated the livelihoods and aspirations of families who had previously worked for decades to rebuild after past violence. They emphasized that tensions in the Pungro subdivision of the Kiphire district should not serve as a pretext for targeting Tikhir residents in Shamator Town.

Demanding an impartial investigation and accountability, the Council questioned the adequacy of security arrangements and the preventive measures taken by the district administration. They also called for a probe into allegations that individuals wearing traditional Yimkhiung attire obstructed security personnel from reaching affected areas and that certain individuals directed tenants to vacate properties belonging to Tikhir residents prior to the destruction.
