Shamrock Rovers move to top of Premier Division after beating Drogheda United

Shamrock Rovers returned to the top of the Premier Division table following a 3-1 victory over Drogheda United at Tallaght Stadium. John McGovern scored twice during the match, continuing a scoring streak from before the international break.

The game began with a record-breaking moment for the home side, as Graham Burke scored just 34 seconds into the match, marking Shamrock Rovers’ fastest-ever goal at Tallaght Stadium. The win places Rovers three points clear at the summit of the league ahead of their upcoming derby against Bohemians.

For Drogheda United, the loss marks a second consecutive defeat, leaving them in the relegation play-off position with three games remaining in the season. Drogheda was led by Daire Doyle, who stood in for head coach Kevin Doherty during a suspension.
