Shams Tabrizi Shrine and monument inaugurated in Khoy
The Shams Tabrizi Shrine and a new monument dedicated to the renowned Persian mystic have been officially inaugurated in Khoy, West Azerbaijan. The ceremony, held on October 7, 2026, was attended by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, as well as West Azerbaijan Governor Reza Rahmani and various national and international guests.
As part of the event, the main city square where the monument was installed has been renamed in honor of Shams Tabrizi. The new shrine complex covers approximately 7,000 square meters and is designed to serve as a cultural and research hub. The facility includes a dome building, research spaces, and a library containing roughly 8,000 volumes to support academic and cultural studies.
The project, completed through the cooperation of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the West Azerbaijan Governor's office, aims to promote the spiritual and historical legacy of Shams Tabrizi while boosting regional tourism and providing a space for intellectual reflection.
