Shandong man sues ex-wife after DNA test reveals child is not his

A 45-year-old man in Shandong Province, China, has successfully sued his ex-wife after discovering that the son he helped raise for nine years is not biologically his. The couple first married in 2011, divorced, and remarried in 2017. Following their second marriage, the wife gave birth to a boy in July 2017.

After a second divorce in 2022, the man initially took responsibility for raising the child. However, suspicions arose in July 2024 when the ex-wife took over the child's care. A DNA test requested by the man on July 9, 2026, confirmed there was no biological relationship between him and the boy.

The Laizhou People's Court ruled in favor of the man, noting that the DNA evidence provided by judicial forensic authorities was conclusive. The court determined that because no biological relationship exists, the man has no legal obligation to support the child. The court ordered the ex-wife to return the funds spent on the child's upbringing, characterizing her deception as “unjust enrichment,” and awarded the man compensation for mental distress caused by the infringement of his personal rights and reputation.
