Shane Higgins jailed for 18 years for sexual offences

Shane Higgins, 37, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison at Canterbury Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple offences, including rape and sexual assault.

Kent Police launched an investigation in May 2026 after a victim disclosed the repeated abuse to a trusted individual. Higgins was arrested the same day the report was made. Following a swift investigation by specialist detectives, Higgins was charged on 1 June and subsequently admitted his guilt, avoiding a trial.

In addition to his prison term, Higgins will be subject to six years of licence requirements upon becoming eligible for parole. Detective Constable Karla Walker commended the victim's courage in coming forward, noting that the evidence gathered allowed for a prompt arrest and conviction.
