Shane MacGowan leaves multi-million pound estate to widow

Details regarding the estate of Shane MacGowan, the late frontman of The Pogues, have been made public following his death from pneumonia in November 2023. The singer’s fortune is valued at approximately £4.8 million (roughly €5.6 million), with total assets potentially exceeding €6.4 million when combined with separate provisions.

MacGowan’s widow, journalist and author Victoria Mary Clarke, has been named as the sole heir and executor. Had MacGowan not been married, his estate would have passed to his sister, Siobhan MacGowan.

A significant portion of the wealth is attributed to ongoing royalties from the hit Christmas song ‘Fairytale of New York’, which MacGowan co-wrote with Jem Finer. The track, recorded with Kirsty MacColl, remains a perennial chart fixture in the United Kingdom.
