Shane McClanahan placed on Rays injured list

Tampa Bay Rays ace Shane McClanahan has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to left forearm tightness. The move comes ahead of the team’s game against the Texas Rangers in Arlington.

This marks McClanahan’s second stint on the injured list this season, following a period from July 31 to August 16 when he dealt with mid-back tightness. The 29-year-old pitcher has faced significant injury challenges throughout his career, including a 578-day absence following a second Tommy John surgery in 2023 and a nerve-related issue in his left triceps that caused him to miss the entire 2025 season.

McClanahan noted feeling “a little tightness” during his five-inning appearance against the Rangers on Thursday, though he suggested it might be fatigue. He stated the team decided to move him to the injured list to “nip it in the bud quick” and prevent the issue from worsening. In a corresponding move, the Rays recalled right-hander Alex Cook from Triple-A Durham.
