Shane Warne legacy highlighted through cricket records and IPL stake
On what would have been his 57th birthday, the legacy of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne is being highlighted, both for his unprecedented bowling records and his strategic business foresight.
Warne, who passed away in 2022, was the first bowler to reach 600 and 700 Test wickets. He held numerous records, including the most Test wickets against a single opponent (England) and the most wickets in a single calendar year.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Warne’s decision to negotiate an ownership stake with the Rajasthan Royals during the inaugural 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has proven highly lucrative. By securing a 0.75% stake per season, his holdings grew to 3% by his retirement in 2011. Following a recent franchise sale valued between $1.6 billion and $2.3 billion, his stake is estimated to be worth over $50 million, providing significant generational wealth for his children.
