Shane Watson calls India his ‘second home’

Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson has described India as his ‘second home’, stating he has felt more welcomed and supported by Indian cricket fans than in his native Australia.

Speaking at an event in Sydney organized by the Consulate of India to celebrate the nation's 80th Independence Day, Watson reflected on his two-decade connection with the country. He credited the introduction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 with deepening his relationship with India. During his career, Watson played for several IPL franchises, including Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Chennai Super Kings. He currently serves as the Assistant Coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Watson noted that the support from the Indian public has had a significant impact on his life and career, adding that he felt less judged by fans in India compared to Australia. He also expressed an appreciation for Indian vegetarian cuisine.
