Shanenawa Festival do Matxu 2026 Celebrates Indigenous Culture in Acre, Brazil

From July 31 to August 2 2026, the Shanenawa Indigenous community will hold the Festival do Matxu at Aldeia Morada Nova, located in the Katukina/Kaxinawá Indigenous Territory near the town of Feijó, Acre, Brazil. The three‑day event, organized by the Associação Comunitária Shanenawa de Morada Nova (Acosmo), features sacred rituals such as the Uni (Ayahuasca) ceremony, traditional dances, games, and the Garota Matxu parade that highlights the youth of the community.

Since its inception in 2008, the festival has become the principal cultural gathering for the Shanenawa people, aiming to preserve and transmit ancestral knowledge, strengthen identity, and foster inter‑generational exchange.
