Shanghai Cooperation Organisation reaches $26 trillion in combined nominal GDP

A report by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) marking the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) highlights the group's growing economic influence. The organization now comprises 10 members, including China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus. The combined nominal GDP of member states has exceeded $26 trillion, representing approximately one-quarter of the global economy, while accounting for more than one-third of global GDP when measured by purchasing power parity.

The SCO's economic growth is projected to average around 5% in 2025, outpacing the global growth rate of 3.4%. Intra-organization exports increased approximately 2.5 times between 2015 and 2024, rising from $271 billion to $674 billion. Additionally, member states contribute significantly to global energy, producing roughly 69% of the world's coal and 30% of its natural gas.

Turkey, which is not a member, has maintained status as a “dialogue partner” since 2012. This role allows Turkey to monitor developments in areas such as energy, trade, terrorism, and regional connectivity.
