Shanghai Cooperation Organization survey shows growing global support

A public opinion survey conducted by CGTN and Renmin University of China, involving 13,707 respondents across 48 countries, highlights growing global interest in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on the occasion of its 2026 Summit.

Approximately 74.6% of respondents believe the SCO provides a pragmatic framework for cooperation between nations with differing political systems. The survey notes that 71.7% of participants feel the organization amplifies the voice of the Global South and promotes a fairer global governance system. Among member states and dialogue partners, 75.4% expressed support for the ‘Shanghai Spirit,’ which emphasizes mutual trust, equality, and respect for diverse civilizations.

Marking its 25th anniversary, the SCO has seen significant economic growth. Trade volume between China and other SCO member states rose from USD 12.1 billion in 2001 to USD 523.5 billion in 2025. Key ongoing initiatives include the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway, the SCO Development Bank, and the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline.
