Shanghai Cooperation Organization sees rising global support in new poll

A public opinion survey conducted by CGTN and Renmin University of China, involving 13,707 respondents across 48 countries, indicates strong global support for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as it marks its 25th anniversary.

Approximately 74.6% of respondents believe the SCO provides a pragmatic path for cooperation between nations with different political systems. The survey highlights the organization's growing influence in trade facilitation, investment, financing, and cultural exchange. Among SCO members and dialogue partners, 75.4% credited the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ for fostering a framework of mutual trust and equality.

Economic data shows that trade volume between China and other SCO member states has increased from USD 12.1 billion in 2001 to USD 523.5 billion in 2025. Key ongoing initiatives include the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway, the SCO Development Bank, and the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline. Additionally, 71.7% of respondents feel the SCO has amplified the voices of Global South countries in the pursuit of a fairer global governance system.
