Shanghai Disneyland begins testing new Spider-Man roller coaster

Walt Disney Imagineering has begun push-pull testing for a new Spider-Man roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland. The attraction is part of the park’s ninth themed land, which marks the first Disney park area dedicated entirely to the Spider-Man character. Testing involves moving ride vehicles at a speed of one centimeter per second to ensure safety and precision before high-speed operations begin.

In a separate context regarding the character’s history in Disney parks, former Imagineer Joe Rohde revealed that Spider-Man was once considered as a replacement for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure. Rohde declined the pitch because the ride’s vertical drop mechanism did not accommodate the swinging movements required for the character. Instead, the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise was selected for the attraction.
