Shanghai student leaves 20 million NDT estate to childhood friend

A 19-year-old university student in Shanghai, referred to as Li, has made a notarized will to leave his entire estate, valued at 20 million NDT (approximately 77 billion VND), to his childhood best friend.

Li's assets include an apartment and significant savings. He cited a lack of closeness with his parents, who are divorced and remarried, as a primary reason for his decision. He expressed concern that without a legal will, his assets might indirectly benefit his parents' new spouses under Chinese inheritance laws.

Driven by a passion for high-risk outdoor extreme sports, Li sought to proactively manage his estate in the event of an unexpected accident. Under Chinese law, individuals are permitted to designate heirs outside of the standard legal hierarchy through a valid will.
