Shangri-La Group announces Songtei Kyoto luxury hotel

Shangri-La Group has announced the development of Songtei Kyoto, the second property in its ultra-luxury Shangri-La Signatures collection. Located in Kyoto, Japan, the hotel is situated opposite the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nijo Castle, on the former site of the Kyoto Shoshidai.

The 77-key hotel is designed to reflect the elegance of Edo-period residences through a contemporary lens. It will feature rooms and suites with views of Nijo Castle’s Kita Ote-mon gate and surrounding gardens. The property will include a holistic wellness sanctuary with a private spa, indoor and outdoor hot baths, an indoor pool, and a gym.

Culinary offerings will include an all-day dining lounge, a Chinese fine dining restaurant, and a kappo-sushi counter. The hotel expects to welcome its first guests in late 2026, with a full property unveiling scheduled for early 2027.
